At the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup in Les Gets (France), Max Hartenstern recorded his best World Cup result to date - and was the first German downhiller on a men's podium in the elite category since 1999. His CUBE Factory Racing teammate Danny Hart crashed in difficult conditions in the final.

The second World Cup stop in Les Gets, France, took place on a completely rebuilt track at Mont Chéry. The conditions for the riders around Danny Hart and Max Hartenstern, which became more difficult due to persistent rain, influenced the course of the race. Already in the past races, the current German champion and third-place finisher at the 2017 Junior World Championships showed that he can also be counted on in the top20 in the elite races. With a starting position outside the top30, Max set himself apart from the competition in his group in the final with the fastest run. Almost all of the following athletes failed to reach his final time - only Thibaut Daprela, was able to finish ahead of him. Within the last starters there were numerous crashes due to the increasingly slippery track. Even two-time world champion Danny Hart had to pay tribute to the extreme weather and track conditions and slid away in the first section.
Max's summary after his first podium in the elite field:

"Hard work pays off, even if the weather was on my side! With 2nd place this weekend, I was able to achieve my best World Cup result to date. Thanks to the whole team and all sponsors for the support!"
